The park is covered by more than 150 km of clearly marked walks. You can also do the Tree Top Walk, which is suspended 15 meters above the ground. Walk through the canopy of the forest along a series of suspension bridges to get another perspective on the forest!
Kaiping Diaolou and Villages feature the Diaolou, multi-storeyed defensive village houses in Kaiping, which display a complex and flamboyant fusion of Chinese and Western structural and decorative forms. One of 41 World Heritage Sites in China!
One of the most ridiculously beautiful places I've ever been. I half-wanted to cancel the rest of my trip 'round Ireland and use the time to stay here instead.
"Cobra" is the guide you want to hire for this boat ride up a river to a bush bar. River is lined with some very eerie trees, etc. We did it at dusk/night, which was very cool.
The West Lake Cultural Landscape of Hangzhou, comprising the West Lake and the hills surrounding its three sides, has inspired famous poets, scholars and artists since the 9th century. One of 41 World Heritage Sites in China!
I have to admit I've never been a huge fan of the Mrs. Tiggletoggle (or whatever she's called) books, but even I would love to see Beatrix Potter's house. It's in a part of the country that's about as English as English gets so if you're into that kind of thing, this should be on your list.
The uKhahlamba Drakensberg Park has exceptional natural beauty in its soaring basaltic buttresses, incisive dramatic cutbacks, and golden sandstone ramparts. Rolling high altitude grasslands, the pristine steep-sided river valleys and rocky gorges also contribute to the beauty of the site. The site’s diversity of habitats protects a high level of endemic and globally threatened species, especially birds and plants. This spectacular natural site also contains many caves and rock-shelters with the largest and most concentrated group of paintings in Africa south of the Sahara, made by the San people over a period of 4,000 years. The rock paintings are outstanding in quality and diversity of subject and in their depiction of animals and human beings. They represent the spiritual life of the now extinct San people. For some reason I had always assumed these were man made but they're actually natural. Sadly, though, their beauty has meant people in the area have focused on the tourism of the terraces and not the preservation of them.
I highly recommend taking one of these cruises. I did so on my first visit to Amsterdam. When traveling solo (or otherwise) I like to get the "lay of the land/water" early in my trip so on the boat ended up meeting terrific people who I later met for art excursions, etc. and it was true travel I highly recommend taking one of these cruises.
