Great location for exploring the Ferry Building and the entire Embarcadero. If you can get a back corner table at Americano for a romantic dinner with your lady, it's outstanding. I suggest the pork chop if they still have it, and the servers know their wine recommendations.
this is my hotel of choice every time i'm in the city. It's close to some of my favorite spots... ferry building, yank sing, slanted door, and boulevard.
They have awesome ice cream! Just prepare to wait in a long line, no matter whether it's ice cream weather or not. Grab a pint before you hit Dolores Park on the weekend.

I saw that you were looking to drink some coffee, so you HAVE to stop by Ritual for some locally roasted coffee! It's also a great coworking space. Lots of fellow tech and social media people whenever I cowork there.
There's a lack of outlets here, so come with a laptop filled with juice! But the coffee is really good, and the atmosphere is perfect for working. Oh, and it's right in the Mission!
I don't care if this place is touristy. I'll chill with the tourists and wait in line for my ahi burger, milkshake and/or beer because that ahi burger is just that solid. A generous slab of RARE tuna with ginger wasabi spread and Asian slaw on a toasted egg bun -- it's the only thing I'll eat there.
This is in the ferry building and they make a mean burger. on a nice day, it will be packed with a bunch of people sitting outside on their picnic tables.
If the weather is nice, this is a lot of fun. it's $12 each way, but imo worth it to get out on the bay. You'll cruise by Alcatraz and you can walk around shop/eat in Sausalito. If you only have 1 day, you might not be able to fit this in though.
Cool, Chinese dive bar. Occasionally has shows in the basement. They're known for their mai tais that'll knock you out, but I personally find them too sweet. Everything else, though -- strong pours ;)
