i was in portland briefly but after watching portlandia it's a place i really want to re-explore.

This is hands down, my favorite bookstore. I think they padded the wooden floors somehow because I swear it was such a comfortable browsing experience that I stayed a few hours! Also, they will find anything you're looking for. Terrific poetry section as well.

Powell's is another one of those you-have-to-go-here-when-in-Portland places.

Because they really do "put a bird on it" -- they serve complimentary bird-printed post-dinner truffles.

Must try their prix fixe one of these days.

Because you can get your intellectual on locally and independently at what claims to be the world's largest independent bookstore.

If you're old enough to remember the eruption at Mt. St. Helen's in 1980, you know it caused considerable damage. Sadly 57 people died.

This interactive sidewalk street art installation is super strange and random. I wouldn't go out of my way to see it, but if you happen to be in the area, it's cool to see. It's within walking distance of a Voodoo Doughnut.

Because this is a street art installation where you can get married or have your fortune told for mere cents. Also, Elvis.
