This is always our first stop in Maui because it's near the airport. Get the lava flow and bring your camera...there is a great beach outside the restaurant where you can take pictures.
This is up on the way to Kapalua. It's a weird place to find, because it's in a condo complex it feels like. There will be a line when you get there, but worth waiting it moves fast, but you'll be starving by the time you get to the front so you'll order the macadamia pancakes for sure. it's This is up on the way to Kapalua. Hard to find, hole in the wall cafe that always has a line stretching around the block. It's located in between the street and a condo complex so if you're trying to find the place and feel lost, you're headed in the right direction. The pancakes are really good. :)
hyatt is great and much sunnier than princeville. We stayed in princeville and loved it and will stay there again next time, but it has more rain than Poipu side of the island.
Also near the Ritz. Good for lunch. Nice view of the golf course and more. They have a specialty sushi roll... crispy tuna if i remember correctly. It's VERY tasty.
I actually enjoyed the bike ride down, though you do fear for your life every time you hit the brakes, hoping they work. It's very touristy but the view down the mountain is pretty incredible.
Tip was supposed to be for the crater and national park. The crater is a pretty magical place to watch the sunrise, but if its a short trip, may be too much effort if you're looking to relax. In any event, avoid the bike tours, unless you can arrange a private tour for just yourselves.

We stayed here for a company trip a few years back. It's a beautiful location on top of the rocks. From what i remember they will charge you the most for the rooms that have full ocean views and they are really nice views. But they are in a separate building from the rest of the property. This was a great find during my first visit to Maui. At the time, they had a special on Mondays for people who brought in canned goods to donate. And, for a venue out in the seemingly middle of nowhere, it boasts a Hawaii Regional Cuisine menu from one of the movement's founders -- Chef Bev Gannon.
Really cool restaurant in a random location. Nice to combine with a trip up-country to the winery. The woman who runs the place is a legend in fresh to table cuisine. Expensive, but very good.
The trip up to the winery is very interesting... get to see the "up-country" portion of Maui, which is the farming, ranching area. Nothing like taking a drive and ending up tasting some pineapple wine. Seriously. Pineapple wine. Not bad, though. I particularly liked the pineapple champagne.
